Party room: Timeline, the music game for a big screen

Put the board on a TV or laptop and let everyone play on their own phone. Each player builds a timeline of songs in release order, with optional steal tokens to keep the game lively.

  • 2 to 8 players
  • Big screen plus a phone each

Free to try. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room need no account and no app.

In this party room one screen is the stage. The host opens a room on a TV, laptop or tablet, and the songs play through its speakers while the board shows every timeline. Players use their own phone only to place the song, so nobody has to squint at a small screen across the room.

The game is turn based, which gives it its pace. The active player listens, taps a spot on their own timeline and confirms. Then the reveal of title, artist and year on the big screen settles the argument, and the next player is up.

How this way of playing works

  1. 1

Open the room on the big screen

Go to hitify.app/host in the browser of the TV or laptop, sign in with an email code, pick a deck and the settings.

  2. 2

    Everyone joins on their phone

Players scan the QR code or type the 4 letter code and pick a name. No account needed.

  3. 3

    Place a song

The active player listens, taps a spot on their own timeline and confirms. Players with a token can pay 1 to steal by suggesting a different free spot.

  4. 4

    Reveal and next turn

The big screen shows title, artist and year. First to fill their timeline wins.

The timeline in one look

A timeline is a row of songs in release order. You hear a new song, never its year, and decide where it fits between the songs already on the row. Get it right and the row grows.

What you need

A big screen with a browser

A TV (browser, cast or an HDMI laptop), a laptop or a tablet, with speakers that work.

A phone for every player

Each one with a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

2 to 8 players

A deck, a minute to scan the code, and that is all.

Tips for a better game

Decide on steal tokens

The host can switch steal tokens on or off. Leave them on for banter, off for a calmer game.

Show the code until everyone is in

Keep the QR code and room code on screen so latecomers can join before the first song.

Set the target to the evening

The host chooses how many cards win. A lower number gives a short game, a higher one fills an evening.

Why it works at a party

No cards needed

Everything happens on screen, so there is nothing to print, shuffle or lose under the sofa.

Works in the browser

No app to install, not even for a party room. Open the page and play.

Three ways to play

One phone for a small group, or a party room with a big screen for a bigger crowd.

Frequently asked questions

Do all players need their own phone?

Yes, in this mode each player places songs on their own phone, and the big screen shows the board. Two people who prefer to play as a pair can share one.

Does anything get stored after the game?

No. The room closes after the game and nobody's name or room is stored.

What does it cost to play?

Popular public decks are free to play. If you turn your own playlist into a deck, the first 100 cards of that deck are free.

Do players need an account or an app?

No app is needed. Whoever starts the game logs in with an email code, no password. Players who join a party room scan a QR code or type the 4 letter room code, then pick a name.

Ready for the first song?

Pick a deck, choose how you want to play and have the first round running within a minute.
